History of Spotted Dog Creamery
Spotted Dog Creamery was founded in Salt Lake City, UT in 2003 by John Winders. He is a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute class of 1991. After graduating, John moved to Park City, UT where he established himself as a chef/caterer serving the needs of many high-end clients. John then took his passion for food to the next level by creating small batch, super premium ice cream and selling the product at local farmers markets. The response was overwhelming. The production grew out of his catering kitchen into a 2000 sq. ft. facility by August 2003. Utilizing mobile ice cream carts that frequented the Park City Farmer's Market and Salt Lake's Downtown Farmer's Market, U football games, Red Butte Concerts, and various other events, John branded his ice cream as a fresh, chef-driven, local alternative. He has created over 100 flavors with classics as vanilla bean and chocolate to more exotic and ethnic flavors such as Crystallized Ginger and Green Tea.

By the summer of 2004 Spotted Dog had already outgrown the old location and moved into a 6100 sq. ft. facility in South Salt Lake City. John continued to rally support at local festivals and multiple charity events building a high demand for the product. To ensure the growth of the company, he secured financing from a local group of investors who believe in the product and Spotted Dog's mission of promoting and selling products in a manner that is both economically and socially sound.
Spotted Dog Creamery is more than just ice cream it's a devotion to buying locally produced, fresh ingredients, encouraging community development and supporting biodiversity.
