Ice cream named in Rocky's honor
John Winders of the Spotted Dog Creamery is operating under the belief that global warming eventually will affect everyone.
His way of chipping in to help solve the problem is naming an ice-cream flavor after Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson: Mayor Rocky Road.
Even though Anderson's favorite flavor reputedly is coffee, Winders said rocky road is a crowd-pleaser, and he wanted to offer a tribute to Anderson. The mayor has traveled internationally to lecture on global warming.
"He's agreed to let us use his name, and we're going to donate a portion of the proceeds to his issue," Winders said.
Anderson's spokesman Patrick Thronson did not return a phone call seeking comment Tuesday.
Mayor Rocky Road is a bittersweet chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips, roasted walnuts and marshmallows. Spotted Dog will dish it and other flavors for free at a July 28 forum on global warming called "Licking Global Warming" at the City Library, Winders said.
